JG Summit plans biofuel
by Othel V. Campos
TUY, Batangas—The Gokongwei group plans to put up a bioethanol plant, possibly in Negros Occidental, to boost the country’s drive to reduce dependence on imported fuel.
A government official said Friday here the group plans to build the plant under the sugar division of Universal Robina Corp., one of the companies owned by JG Summit Holdings Inc.
“A company official paid a visit Thursday and informed the agency that they are planning to establish their own bioethanol processing plant,” said Ma. Regina Martin, chief of the Sugar Regulatory Administration, at the sidelines of the launching of a sugar block farming program.
A bioethanol plant could cost around P6 billion.
SRA planning manager Rosemarie Gumera said URC planned to use molasses as the company’s preferred feedstock for ethanol production.

Possibly in Negros? It is definite. It will be at the URSUMCO site, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental. Praj Industries (india) shall supply the equipment and supervise the construction. Contract was signed mid-Dec 2011. The alcohol plant was supposed to be put up in 2007 but got entangled at the DENR-ECC unit due to strong opposition from local environmentalists (there is a coral reef tourist attraction nearby).
P6Billion price tag is too much. P2,5B to P3 Billion is more like it.
Imported fuel ethanol currently at about P23 per liter (Luzon). Compare with P34 to P44 per liter for local (Negros price, add freight to Luzon).
dapat kasi forum type sa citisec, para pwedeng magreklamo kung palpak ang advisory
Well, in fairness to COL, you have to take into consideration that not all recommendations are exact and absolute. Pano kung tumama naman yung analysis ng COL at naipit ka sa taas, masasabi mo bang "wow ang galing naman ng COL"?
patiently waited for that, btw... proven it the otherway.. especially dun sa recommendation nila sa
EDC... (hope wala masyado naipit dito)
reiterate nila ulit ung 49/sh nila... URC closed at 57.5
in fairness naman sa kanila, sila lang nakita ko na broker na, nag papaseminar, at willing ipakuha sa messenger yung mga application forms sa iba't ibang lugar.
