New composition of PSEindex effective September 12, 2011

The new rules and criteria to determine the thirty (30) companies that will comprise the PSE Index (PSEi) has been used for the upcoming recomposition of the PSEindex effective on September 12, 2011.

To be eligible to join the PSEi, a stock has to meet two main criteria.
First, it has to have a minimum free float of 12% (raised from the prior 10%).
Second, it must be ranked among the top quartile of stocks based on median daily turnover in at least 9 out of the 12 months included in the review period (previously stocks had to have a daily turnover of at least Php5.0 million and a turnover ratio of 10%).

All stocks that meet the above criteria will then be ranked according to full market capitalization. This shall be computed as the total number of shares outstanding at the end of the review period multiplied by the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of the stock for the 12-month period under review.

The top thirty stocks according to full market capitalization will comprise the PSEi regardless of sector. This means that there will no longer be any automatic sector representation (as per Abacus research).
