How to disable Iphone 4, 3g, 3gs multitasking with ztoggle

Are you one of those that installed iOS4 on your old 3g or 3gs Iphone device and find that the multitasking feature is too much for your memory?  Well, I am one of those with an Iphone 4 and even I find that multitasking ridiculous.  For those not in the know, multitasking is not a choice in Iphone 4.  When you are running any app, most apps have no EXIT button, and the only way to really exit would be to press the device’s manual home button.  Doing so will take you back to your springboard or dashboard, but this leaves the app active in your memory.  Unconsciously, you will build up a lot of background memory usage as you use and “exit” more apps.

If only there were some separate button or separate way for users to choose if they wanted to multitask or not, but apple being apple, makes life more complicated in choosing simplicity in their design.  One button for all. Hence no choices.

zToggle is a free jailbreak app which lets you easily enable and disable multitasking and background wallpaper on your iPhone 3Gs and 4. With zToggle, you can toggles for multitasking and background wallpapers in seconds right from your IOS 4.x iPhone and don’t need to use redsn0w or Pwnage tools for it.

This app is compatible with iPod Touch 2G, iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4. To use the zToggle app, you iOS 4 iPhone and iPod Touch must be jailbroken. Read here for Jailbreak guide.

zToggle app

Download and install zToggle for free on Cydia store. Than launch the zToggle app from the Springboard and simply Turn On and Off the button to enable and disable the features, Restart device Springboard.  After installation you will find a new icon on your SpringBoard called zToggle. Load the app and turn on/off multitasking and/or wallpapers.

……….or, you can always do it the hard nerdy way by SSH-ing into your device.   SSH to the following dir “/System/Library/CoreServices/” search for the following file “N82AP.plist” and the open it with notepad and search for “multitasking” and change the <multitasking> value from <true/> to <false/>. Restart Iphone and you’re done.

  1. Thanks for sharing the zToggle program. I’ve been looking for something like this for quite some time now.

  2. I have been your avid reader and I always leave a comment. Hope to read more from you!

  3. Awesome! Nice job. zToggle was a powerful program.

  4. I really have no problem with the multitasking feature of the iOS4, although if it contributes to draining my batteries faster I might just follow this tip. Thanks!
