how to watch pacquiao vs hatton and other boxing ppv free online

(author's update. The process discussed in this article may also be used to watch the Mayweather versus Marquez fight this September 19, 2009, and the upcoming Miguel Cotto versus Pacquiao this November 14,2009)

Last December 7, 2009, we edited this article from its original "Pacquaio vs. Marquez" title, as it was also applicable to pacman versus golden boy's fight.  Today, one year after the original article, we once again re-label and re-edit the article to fit the upcoming Pacquiao versus Hatton fight for May 2, 2009.

As with Oscar De La Hoya's fight arrangement disagreement over the purse split, (De La Hoya wanted 70-30, Pacquiao wanted 40), the Pacquiao Hatton fight almost did not push through with a similar disagreement over the purse.  Both parties stressed that each had the bigger crowd draw from their home country, thus each demanding a bigger cut from the PPV.

Top Rank and Golden Boy thought they had a deal for the fight weeks ago until Pacquiao insisted on a better percentage of the revenue. After back and forth, Pacquiao missed a deadline to sign and the fight was called off. That resulted in a frenetic few days spent trying to revive the deal.

In the end, they worked it out last week with Pacquiao due to receive 52 percent to Hatton's 48 percent, according to Arum.

Allegedly, Pacquiao's press release reason why they went on with the fight was over a bet and a couple of bottles of beers with a friend.  Sure, why would anyone want to pass on a $12 million purse anyway.

Pacquiao, who will earn a minimum of $12 million, will be fighting in his fourth different weight class in four fights. He won the junior lightweight championship last March via split decision against Juan Manuel Marquez. Pacquiao then moved up to lightweight, where he knocked out David Diaz in the ninth round to claim a title, before jumping up to welterweight, where he destroyed De La Hoya in eight one-sided rounds on Dec. 6.

Now, Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) will be dropping to the 140-pound junior welterweight division to challenge Hatton (45-1, 32 KOs), who has ruled the weight class since stopping Kostya Tszyu to win the title in June 2005. Tickets for the bout go on sale Friday through Ticketmaster with prices at $1,000, $750, $500, $350 and $150.

Just like the Pacman Dela Hoya fight, there was also a pre-fight "training documentary" warm up movie entitled 24/7 by HBO just for Manny Pacquaio and Ricky Hatton.

The schedule for that warm up movie is:

HBO Pacquiao Vs Hatton 24/7 Schedule:

Pacquiao Vs Hatton 24/7 Episode 1 – April 11 – 9:30 pm
Pacquiao Vs Hatton 24/7 Episode 2 – April 18 – 10:00 pm
Pacquiao Vs Hatton 24/7 Episode 3 – April 25 – 9:30 pm
Pacquiao Vs Hatton 24/7 Episode 1, 2, 3, 4 – May 1, 2009 – from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Option #1: For those watching the fight online, Biliran Island Video has the set up a streaming video for the fight. According to the website, he is using windows media technology, so you're going to need to download microsoft media player, as well as Microsoft Silverlight. The said website also said that it would be streaming at 320 X 240 resolution which is comparable to that of youtube, so your Internet connection needs broadband speed.

* I don't know if this still works

Option #2: Another way to watch the game is to download Sopcast and TVU. Both of these are free Peer to Peer or P2P software used to watch live TV. Some channels are of semi-permanent to fly by night once-event channels, so the hardest part is finding channel that has a decent bandwidth to spare.

*Sopcast has worked fine twice in a row for both the Pacquaio vs Marquez fight and the Pacman versus De La Hoya fight. Usually, real actual channels will only go live and be viewable on actual few hours before the fight.

Sopcast Channel:

*justintv links have been removed

In comparing the two, SopCast it seems has less US channels compared to TVU Player. On TVU I was able to watch ESPN, HBO, CNN, and many different category of of various international channels. There are some notable regular sports channels which includes CCTV5, a Chinese channel.
You can download the free softwares here: Sopcast and TVU

Boxing pay per views. Both normal boxing and pay per view boxing can be watched on sopcast. First check the numerous boxing forums and they should give you a specific sopcast channel. Simply enter that channel in the player and you should be able to watch the boxing event live. The quality usually is not that good with this player.
